Today I have a Father's Day gift idea that I am so excited to share with you all! (Plus, I've teamed up with five other bloggers to bring you even more rad Father's Day ideas. Scroll to the end to see them all.) For my husband's last birthday, the kids and I made a Kid-Crafted Storybook about Super Knight (the hubs' superhero alter-ego created by the kids), and it has become a favorite in our house. Just a couple days ago, my husband was reading the story with our kids again, and he said it was the best gift he's ever been given. For reals. He really said that. Either this book is really good or I need to seriously step up my gifting game.Anyway - for Father's Day this year, we decided to make a sequel, which will be titled Super Knight 2: Save the Mermaids. It is not entirely Continue Reading

DIY Chalkboard – A Semi-Fail
I made this DIY Chalkboard to go on the wall over my son's crib in his nursery. I like the way it looks in the room, but I'm still calling it a semi-fail. More details on that to come.Anyway - The really great thing about this chalkboard is how cheap it was and how easy it was to make! I used a leftover piece of drawer liner material (leftover from the ramp we built for my son's Lego birthday party) as the back of the chalkboard, so that was free! For the chalkboard's frame I bought about ten dollar worth of molding. And I made my own chalkboard paint using a paint sample (about three bucks) and some leftover grout from when we tiled our bathroom floors (free!) All in all, this custom chalkboard cost me thirteen dollars. Not too shabby. We started off by cutting the drawer liner Continue Reading

Be Gentle with Yourself Free Printable and Thoughts on SNAP
A few weeks ago, I went to SNAP, a creative blogger conference. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot. I have thought about sharing a recap or some of the things I learned, but ultimately I really only want to share this one thought: "Be gentle with yourself."For the most part, the conference was uplifting, inspiring, and fun, but it could also get a bit stressful too. Anytime I started to get anxiety over all the work I needed to do or beat myself up over some perceived deficiency, I would remind myself, "Be gentle with yourself." The line comes from the poem "Desiderata" by Max Ehrmann. Here's a little excerpt:Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be Continue Reading
Make Your Own Watercolor Pillow
This post was originally shared on Eighteen25.So you have probably noticed I've been on a bit of a watercolor kick for a while now. I am slowly learning how it works, but what I really love about watercolor is how it seems have a mind of its own. It flows and mixes around and never does exactly what I want it to do but ends up looking beautiful despite my meddling because what do I know anyway?I have been wanting to try to get a watercolor look on fabric, so I made this pretty pastel pillow. It was really simple and a lot of fun to make, so I think I will be experimenting with this technique again soon. Here's how you can make your own.You will need:Fabric paint or acrylic paint + fabric medium Washable Fabric (I chose a silky polyester that is machine washable) Continue Reading
DIY Double-Sided, Custom-Shaped Business Cards
Last week I was in Salt Lake attending SNAP!, a conference for creative bloggers. It was a great experience - I met lots of incredible people and filled my brain up with all loads of information - but, honestly, the days leading up to the conference were on the crazy side of hectic. One of the things on my to-do list was making my business cards. As you can probably imagine, the business cards at a creative blogger conference are kind of a big deal. I could do a whole post just about all the awesome-sauce cards I collected (from coloring pages, to sugar cookies, to sand paper), but I'm just going to share what I did and how I made them.I wanted to incorporate the new blog design into my cards, which meant I got to bust out my watercolors again. Yay! I painted a whole stack of 90 lb. Continue Reading
Geometric Crochet Basket Pattern
If you've been around here much you probably have noticed that I've been into black and white geometrics lately. (Did you see my kid's new table, by the way?) So, anyway, I decided to see how I could interpret the trend in crochet. I ended up with this little basket that is a perfect addition to my craft area, which I am currently working on organizing and sprucing up. This basket has lots of fun texture, so while it may look complex, it really only uses variations of the single crochet. Simple! You can totally make this. Geometric Crochet Basket Pattern Materials needed:Cotton worsted weight yarn in two colors (I used one ball each of Lily Sugar N' Cream in black and white) Size H (5.00 mm) crochet hook Leather Thread Sewing Machine or NeedleWith the Continue Reading
Modern Kids Table Set Makeover – No Power Tools Required!
Give an old vinyl covered table new life with this Kids Table Set Makeover. It's easy to update this table to give it a custom, modern look and a real wood top. This post contains affiliate links, which help to support this blog. Thank you!A few months ago a friend posted this little table and chairs for sale on facebook:They were a little beat-up, but I had been wanting to get a craft table for the kids and since I am a believer in the power of spray paint, I was definitely interested. She ended up giving them to me for free (so nice!), and I started my scheming. I have been wanting to refinish and recover some folding chairs for a long time, so I immediately knew what I was going to do with those babies, but the table was a bit more tricky. It was covered with sad, Continue Reading
