Hi, I’m Alexis!
Hey there! I’m Alexis Middleton, and this is my little corner of the internet. Welcome! I love color, texture, and pattern with all of my crafty heart. Playing with yarn, paper, fabric, and paint is my very favorite thing to do, and if you like those things too, you are totally in the right spot.
We are going to have some fun!
Here’s a few questions you might have and a little info to introduce you to me and my blog.
Thanks for being here! 🙂
So, why did you start this blog, anyway? And what’s with the name?
Although I love all kinds of crafting, crochet was my first love and what led me to start my blog. I first learned to crochet when I was nine years old spending the summer at my grandma’s house. My great grandma, Persia, was living with them at that time, and she and my grandma, nickname Lou, taught my sister and me how to crochet little doll-sized afghans. Mine was purple, and I thought it was one of the best things I had ever made.
Years later, I hadn’t crocheted since childhood and I was pregnant with my first child. I wanted a new hobby, and I picked up a crochet book at the craft store. Even though it had been so long since I had crocheted, my hands seemed to remember, and I haven’t stopped since. I found so many great resources online as I was re-learning crochet, and I decided I wanted to share the things I was creating with the world too, so I created my blog and named it after the two women who taught me to crochet as a child.
What do you like to do besides crafting?
I really do spend a lot of my time making stuff, but when I’m not doing that, I am probably playing with, feeding, cleaning up after, nagging, or otherwise parenting my three awesome kids. I might be biased, but I think they are pretty great. I also love musical theater (currently addicted to Hamilton), reading (I’ve read every single Agatha Christie), dark chocolate (Ghiradelli’s Sea Salt Soiree is my go-to), nerdy board games (Splendor, Caverna, and Avalon are a few faves), and traveling with my family (Disneyland has my heart).
Can I sell something I made using one of your patterns or tutorials?
First of all, I am so glad that you made one of my projects! It is my very favorite thing in the world to see other people making something I designed. Second, thanks for asking. I really appreciate it. Finally, YES. You are welcome to sell a finished item that you made using one of my patterns. I do ask that you include a link to the original pattern when possible. However, please do NOT sell or redistribute any of my patterns or tutorials. If you want to share a pattern with someone, please just send them the link. I am able to continue to provide patterns for free because I make ad revenue when people visit my site. If people don’t visit, I can’t make any money, and I cannot continue to provide my work here without charge to you wonderful people. Also, you may NOT use any of my photos to sell items that you have made. You need to take your own photos to show off that work! 😉
Where else can we find you?
I am all over the internets, guys. Pinterest is maybe my favorite place to hang out. I am constantly pinning stuff there. Instagram is a close second as it is probably the prettiest social media. I’m starting to get into youtube, and I’m working on making lots of great videos for you all. Sometimes I love facebook, and I’m also on twitter and google plus, although I’m not super regular there. I have a snapchat account (@persialou) but I’ve never actually posted anything there. It makes me feel really old. Ha!
And if you have any questions or just want to chat, feel free to send me an email at alexis@persialou.com. I love making new friends!
Happy Making!
