Today I have a fun new design to share with you all that can be used in lots of different ways!
I created this hand-lettered “to the moon and back” design with the idea of using it to make a painted sign, but it would also be adorable on a greeting card – or what about a onesie?!
So cute! 🤩
At the end of this post, you can grab the design either as an SVG cut file to use with your craft cutter OR as a PDF printable that you can use to make your own painted sign as I did below.
Who wants to do some painting? 🙋♀️
DIY To the Moon and Back Painted Sign
The best part about this project is that it’s so easy! Anyone can make this sign – no special painting skills required!
This project would be perfect for a paint party or girls’ night in! Just round up the supplies, grab some snacks, and get painting!
Psst – If you don’t feel like painting, you can cut this design from heat transfer vinyl and simply iron the design onto your unfinished wood sign. I have a whole post about how to use iron on vinyl to make wooden signs right over here. OR this design would also work well on a DIY reverse canvas.

How to Make a "Love You to The Moon and Back" Painted Sign
Make your own hand painted "love you to the moon and back" wall decor with this free printable template and simple transfer technique.
Materials
- Unfinished Wood Sign
- Acrylic Craft Paints
- Graphite Paper
- Tape
Tools
- Paint Brushes
- Pencil or Stylus
Instructions
- Start by painting the wooden sign a solid color. I used a dark blue.
- While the background color dries, print off the design template on regular copy paper. The template is scaled to work on a sign around 18" x 21". If your sign is a different size, you will need to scale the template before printing. After you have the template printed, use tape to connect the pieces.
- Place a piece of graphite tracing paper on top of the painted sign. You will need white graphite paper for darker backgrounds and gray for lighter backgrounds. Layer the printed template on top of the graphite paper. Use tape to hold the graphite paper and template in place. Use a pencil or stylus to trace the design onto your wooden sign. Press firmly to help the graphite transfer clearly. After tracing the entire design, remove the template and graphite paper.
- Finally, use your paint and brushes to paint over the transferred design. Small round bushes work best for smaller details. Take your time and enjoy!

I tried to download your “Love you to the moon and back file” but was unable to do so. I clicked everywhere I thought that it might be the place to click without success.
