Monster Buttons – Kids Halloween Craft Idea

These cute little monster buttons are a fun and simple Kids Halloween Craft idea. Personalize your own cute monsters with paper, paint, and googly eyes. I originally shared this post at the Darice blog, and it contains affiliate links, which help to support this blog. Thank you!

Monster Buttons - Kids Halloween Craft Idea

It has finally cooled down here, and it is putting me in the mood for a bit of Halloween crafting. My kids have recently declared Halloween to be their favorite holiday (we will see if that sticks when Christmas time rolls around), and they are excited to squeeze every bit of fun out of the holiday that they can.

Button Monster Kids Craft

These simple little DIY monster buttons make a fun little kids Halloween craft that is more cute than spooky, but they would really be a fun craft year round. My kids and I had a blast making a whole pile of crazy creatures. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I do really like this guy:

Here’s everything you need to make your own monster buttons.

Monster Buttons - Kids Halloween Craft Supplies

DIY Monster Buttons Kids Halloween Craft Supplies:

  • Design-A-Button Kits (2.5 inch)
  • Colored Cardstock
  • Scissors
  • 2.5″ Circle Punch (optional, but great to have!)
  • Glitter Glue Pens
  • Paste On Eyes
  • Permanent Adhesive Roller
  • Craft Paint
  • Round Brushes

How to make your own DIY Monster Buttons

1. Make Paper Insert

You can just use just paper or you can use crayons or markers to add designs and color to the paper first. My kids really liked to color on the paper first, and I think it definitely adds a fun element.

Trace the insert that comes in the button on the back of your paper to get the right size circle and cut it out. Place the circle of paper into the button and snap the back on again. Easy peasy. My 7 year old had no problem doing this all on his own.

To make things a little bit easier, you could also use a 2.5″ circle punch instead of cutting the circles out by hand.

2. Add Paint and Eyes to Create your Monster.

This is the fun part, guys. It’s kind of amazing the range of personalities you can create with just paint and googly eyes!

Add one, two, or five googly eyes to give your DIY monster button it’s own look. I got a big value pack of eyes that comes with all kind of colors and sizes, so you can make each button totally unique. We used a permanent adhesive roller to easily and firmly adhere the eyeballs to the buttons.

We you have your eyes picked out, use paint and glitter glue to add mouths, hair, and other details.

And that’s it! Once the paint and glitter glue dry, your buttons are all done. Pin one or three on your jacket, backpack, or tote bag for a little extra monster flair.

These are a really fun kids Halloween craft, but they really could be fun any time of the year.

Happy Making!
