Have you ever attempted itty bitty crochet before? If not, you should definitely give it a shot. These cute crochet flower hair combs are a great project to get you started. I used a small hook and some colorful thread to make bunch of little flowers and leaves and then glued them onto hair combs for a simple and pretty accessory.
Because these little flowers are so teeny tiny, they work up quickly, which means you can have a whole bouquet of crocheted flowers in an afternoon. Craft thread/embroidery floss is great to work with – it’s sturdy, soft, cheap, and comes in hundreds of colors. These little hair combs can be made in any color you like, so you can customize them for a special occasion or personalize them to make a memorable gift. I’m thinking they would be perfect for Mother’s Day, which is right around the corner! (Don’t forget!)
Okay, let’s get started!
Crochet Flower Hair Combs Supplies:
- Wire Hair Comb
- Craft Thread in Assorted Colors
- 3.o0 mm Crochet Hook
- Threading Needle
- Pearl Beads
- Hot Glue Gun
Step One – Crochet flowers
The first thing we need to do to make our crochet flower hair combs is to get crocheting! Each hair comb needs three flowers and four leaves. I crocheted my flowers in two colors for each comb, but feel free to try any combination of colors you like.

Tiny Flower Pattern (Make three)
Rnd 1: Begin with magic loop, work 6 sc stitches into magic loop, pull to tighten, slip stitch to join.
Rnd 2: *Ch 3, sl st into next sc, repeat from * five times. You will have six ch 3 loops.
Rnd 3: Sl st into first ch 3 loop, (ch 1, sc, dc, sc) all in ch 3 loop (first petal formed). Insert hook into center hole (see photo below) and work a slip stitch, tighten to define petals.
*Sl st into next ch 3 loop, (ch 1, sc, dc, sc) into ch 3 loop, sl st through center hole and tighten, repeat four more times, sl st through center hole and tighten, finish off and weave in ends. Six petals formed.
Use the needle to weave in one tail end, and use the other end to attach a bead to the center of the flower. Pull the needle up to the front, thread the bead onto the thread, and push the needle back down on the other side. Knot and weave in end to secure.
Step Two – Crochet leaves
Once you have made three flowers, you are all ready to crochet some cute bitty leaves!
Tiny Leaf Pattern (Make four)
Begin by chaining 5. Work a sc into the top loop only of the second chain from the hook. Hdc in the top loop only of the next ch. Dc in the top loop only of the next ch. Hdc and sc into the top loop of the last ch.
Chain 2, and sl st to the other side of that same ch. Work a sc and a hdc into the other side of the same ch. Now going back down the other side of the chain, dc in the next ch, hdc in the next, and finally sc in the last ch. Ch 2, and sl st to the very first sc on the other side of the leaf.
Finish off and use your needle to weave in your ends.
Step Three – Attach crocheted elements to comb
Almost done with our crochet flower hair combs! All that’s left to do is attach those little lovelies to your comb. Use a hot glue gun and layer the pieces over each other for stability. Start with leaves as your base.
And that’s it! All that’s left to do is wear your pretty crochet flower hair combs or gift them to someone special.
I made a pink and green comb and one in more neutral colors – ivory, white, and copper – and I love the look of both. Which is your fave?
If you make your own crochet flower hair combs, I would love to see them! Share them to my facebook page or tag me on instagram or twitter (@persialou) and be sure to use the hashtag #persialou for a chance to be featured.
