Textured Infinity Scarf Pattern

It’s kind of hard to believe, but, ready or not, it’s time to start thinking about getting started on your handmade holiday gifts. But, guys – deep breaths – it’s going to all be okay.
In fact, today, 14 of my blogger buddies and I teaming up to help you out! We’re sharing fifteen great handmade gift ideas to get you going. You will find links to all the other fab gifts at the end of this post, so keep reading!
For my gift idea, I’m sharing a pattern for this textured crochet infinity scarf.
A pretty crocheted accessory is a great gift, plus it’s a great way to keep your hands busy when you’re watching TV at night. I love having a crochet project to work on so I can feel like I’m being productive instead of like I’m just vegging out. 😉
I think if I made the scarf again, I would probably double the stitches in the starting round and make it longer so it could be wrapped around the neck twice.

Materials

  • DK weight yarn – (I used one ball of Vickie Howell Cottonish)
  • Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook

Special Stitches
fsc: foundation single crochet, see my tutorial here.
dc dec: double crochet decrease – yarn over, insert hook into next st, yarn over (3 loops on hook); insert hook into next st, yarn over (4 loops on hook); yarn over, draw hook through first two loops; yarn over, and draw hook through remaining two loops.

Round 1: 112 fsc, sl stitch to join.

Round 2: ch 4, *skip 1 fsc, dc in next st, ch 1, repeat from * around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 4 to join.

Round 3: ch 3, *dc in ch1 sp, dc in next dc, repeat from * around, sl st in top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Round 4: ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Round 5: ch 3, *dc dec over next 2 sts, repeat from * around, sl st in top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Round 6: ch 3, dc in each st around, sl st in top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Round 7: ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each st around, sl st in top beginning ch to join.

Round 8: ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each st around, sl st in top beginning ch to join.

Round 9: ch 4, dc in previous stitch working behind ch 4 (crossed dc formed), *sk 1 st, dc in next st, dc in previous stitch working behind dc just formed, repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Round 10: ch 3, dc in each dc of previous round, sl st to join.

Round 11: ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each st around, sl st in top beginning ch to join.

Round 12: ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each st around, sl st in top beginning ch to join.

Round 13: ch 3, dc in each st around, sl st in top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Round 14: ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Round 15: ch 3, dc dec over next 2 sts, repeat from * around, sl st in top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Round 16: ch 3, dc in each st around, sl st in top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Round 17: ch 4, *skip 1 st, dc in next st, ch 1, repeat from * around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 4 to join.

Round 18: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. Finish off, and weave in ends.

And that’s it! Wrap that pretty scarf up and give it away!

So pretty! I have zero crochet skills, but I was practically shouting in agreement with your line about liking having something for your hands to do while watching TV – I said exactly the same thing in my post about my wall hangings! It made me really happy to find someone who can relate to that 🙂

It's so pretty, I love the idea of it longer too. The way you've created all that texture so simply is great. Could you add how much wool you used (just a rough guide would be great) so I can see whether I have enough in my stash – I have one in mind that I have about 100g of – will that be enough?

Hi Julia! Yes that should do just fine. I used less than on 70g ball. 🙂

Lovely design! Following your instructions, I completed R1; ie, 112 fsc & joined to the starting fsc with a sl st. Now before commencing R2, I'm not sure whether I should turn the work around and crochet back from the sl st or keep going forward in the same direction. So my question is: After each Round, should I crochet in a circular direction or go back & forth? I'm stuck!

Hi Rhoda! Just keep going around in the same direction. You will be working around the outside of the tube. I hope that helps! Good luck!
