I have some big news to share with you all today! (If you follow me over on facebook, then you may have already gotten a bit of a sneak peek.) Over the past couple months I have been working in collaboration with Silhouette and Craftsy to produce a new online course all about how to cut vinyl with the Silhouette, and it is launching in just a little over a week!
If you aren’t familiar with Craftsy, it is an online creative community where you can learn all kinds of new skills and hobbies at your own pace, with online-video classes you can watch anytime, anywhere, forever. I have taken lots of online courses, and I have to say that Craftsy courses are some of the most beautiful, high-quality courses out there, and I am so excited to be a part of that! You can see my review of a Craftsy course I took a few years ago right here, and if you want to get a better idea of how a Craftsy class works, you can try out one of these free mini-classes right now (there are some good ones in there)!
My course is called Silhouette Savvy: Venture into Vinyl and it will teach you everything you need to get started cutting vinyl with your Silhouette. In the course, I will walk you through creating eleven different vinyl projects. You will get all the cut files required for those projects as well as video guidance for each step. As we create those projects, you will learn:
- The basics of cutting adhesive and heat transfer vinyl.
- How to cut vinyl with or without a mat.
- Tips and techniques for getting the precise application.
- How to layer adhesive vinyl for perfect, multi-color decals.
- Various techniques for making weeding and application easier.
- How to cut and apply large-scale wall decals.
- Software tips and tricks for working with fonts, scaling images, cutting by color, and more.
- How to layer heat transfer vinyl for fun multi-color designs.
- How to use the print and cut feature with printable heat transfer material.
- How to use vinyl stencils to screen print and create etched glass designs.
All of that and a whole lot more too. Plus, you even get to see me make some mistakes and have to fix them, cuz I’m not perfect folks. Ha! But the good news is you don’t have to be perfect to make awesome things and have a whole lot of fun doing it. I really hope you will have a lot of fun taking this class, and I know you will come out of this class ready to tackle any vinyl project you can imagine!
And there is just so much you can do with vinyl! You can see some of the projects we create in the class in that image there – all vinyl projects. I tried to create a collection of projects that show of vinyl’s range, and we create wall decals, a mug, a tote bag, a t-shirt, onesie, a wall hanging, shoes, a mirror, and more! And I think it’s all really cute stuff, friends. I hope you will too!
If you are curious about the filming process, you might want to check out the facebook live video I did while filming at Craftsy HQ in Denver. It’s always fun to get behind the scenes action, right?
Happy Making!

Is a Cameo 3 required or will any cameo work?
Alexis says
Any Cameo will work great. I use a Cameo 3 in the class, but I point out any differences so you won’t be lost if you are using a different model. 🙂
