How to Quickly Update Your Christmas Tree on the Cheap

Do you guys get Christmas tree ADD?

Pretty much every year I feel the need to change things up a bit… or change things up a lot. Which, of course, can get pretty pricey.

I was going through my box of ornaments from previous years to see what could be incorporated into this year’s color scheme. And, while there were some ornaments that will work, there were SO many that just won’t. Or, at least, I thought they wouldn’t, until I gave them a makeover. And just like Cher, you know I love a makeover. It gives me a sense of control in a world full of chaos. 😉

Several years ago I had an all blue and silver tree, and that was fun, but these blue ornaments just aren’t working with the white and gold thing I’ve got going on this year.

So I decided to give them a couple coats of metallic gold spray paint, and I was really pleased with the way they turned out.

Even the glittery ornaments stayed pretty glittery. It only took me a few minutes to go from a bunch of blue ornaments to a bunch of gold ornaments. Score!

Do you have any old ornaments in your stash that could use a makeover? Let me know if you give it a go.

Geez, this is so obvious but I would have never thought of painting some of my old ornaments. Love it.

So smart…I wonder if my hubby would mind if I painted all our ornaments pink:) This is really a great idea, I love projects that don't require another trip to home depot too, I have so many cans of spraypaint in the basement!!

All I'm going to say is my husband HATES glitter and we still have plenty of glitter ornaments. Haha… I would love to see your pink tree! 🙂

cool project and it&#39;s always great to reuse old ornaments! a couple of years ago took some old baubles that we didn&#39;t use anymore and covered them with paper mache and then painted them with acrylics. they turned out pretty good and we&#39;ve been using them ever since, either on our tree or as decorations for the house.<br />aleka

This is such a fab idea! Super frugal way to change out your decorations every year. Pinned it to my frugal living board. 🙂

Such a great idea Alexis! Last year was the first time my husband and I had a Christmas tree so we don&#39;t have too many ornaments to begin with, but I could definitely see myself sprucing up some of my grandparent&#39;s older ones.

LOVE it- I have been doing the same thing. I needed a change &amp; this is so much better than buying all new decorations.
