Creative. Crafty. Fun.

Drop It (Like It’s Hot) Hexagon Tray

When my husband gets home, the first thing he does is empty his pockets. All the coins, pens, receipts, wallet, keys – all that junk gets dropped on pretty much whatever counter or table top is nearest. NOW, I know I have my annoying habits, so I try not to make a deal of it; however, this kind of makes me crazy.

I decided I wanted to make him a little tray for him to drop all of his stuff in, thinking that if it’s in a cute little tray maybe I will feel less crazy. Maybe.

So when imagining what I wanted this little “drop tray” to look like, all I could think of was “drop it like it’s hot,” which is, yeah, a little weird, but I just went with it. So without further ado, I give you: Drop It (Like It’s Hot), A Hexagon Tray.

I had picked up a couple of these little hexagon-shaped trays from the Target dollar section and decided to give one of them a facelift.

I started off by spray painting it gold, because… I guess that’s just what I do. Then I got to playing around with the Silhouette software to create my design. This was fun, a bit frustrating, and definitely a learning process. Eventually, I got the design to do what I wanted it to do.

I cut the design out of white cardstock on the slowest speed setting to make sure all the little pieces got cut out properly. I used the spatula to carefully remove the design from the cutting mat.

Those little pieces around “like it’s hot” were a bit tricky.

But I was so happy when it all came out in one piece. Yesssssssss.

I’m actually really happy with the way this came out. (P.S. If you want to make one yourself, you can get the silhouette file HERE.)

Next up, mod podge the design to the tray, aaaaaand that is it, folks. It’ss ready to have all your junk dropped into it!

So fun! I JUST spray painted my Target hex tray white… great minds think alike, although I didn't glam it up with a silhouette print like you. Love it.

Love this! I have been thinking of getting my husband a little basket too….but I am afraid I will be the one putting the items in the basket after finding them wherever he drops them…even with a spot of his own. But at least I could make it a cute basket. 😉 Thanks for the inspirations!
