Diamond Baby Quilt

My sweet and talented mother made this lovely quilt for my baby boy. Isn’t it great? What I really love about the pattern she created is that it is completely made with half square triangles just like my herringbone quilts. She used the same technique I explain here to make her squares and then just arranged them in a different way. Her pattern is basically made up of four-square units that form an arrow shape:
These are then twisted to face opposite directions. My mom chose to quilt a quarter inch around the outside and inside of these arrows to form a diamond shape.
She started out with four inch squares that got down to little three inch squares after piecing the whole top.
She chose a tonal navy blue fabric for the backing (which matches the nursery) and used a wide yellow ric rac for the edging.
I just love it. What do you all think?

I have never used ric rac on a quilt before, it looks just gorgeous! Would definitely be interested in knowing how to do this – it doesn't look like there is traditional binding on the quilt? Lisa @ Sweet Benanna & Sam

This is SUCH a cute quilt–the ricrac is an awesome touch! Wow, do I love the chalkboard art over the crib.

I love it! I've been obsessed with HST projects lately, and this is so unique. The quilting pattern, while simple, adds so much to the quilt too. And to top it off, I love the colors, especially with the cute polka dot sheets, the cheerful crib skirt, and the great rug. This is one great looking nursery! And, I'm definitely pinning the picture so I remember this quilt in my HST obsession
