I have a pretty, lacy, and spooky crochet project for you all today – a crochet masquerade mask! So fun, right? I am really happy with the way this little mask came out, and I have been looking forward to sharing it with you all here.
This is one of those projects that reminds me of why I love crochet so much – you can take some string and a hook and make something that just wasn’t there before. It’s kind of magic.
Plus, this little mask is a great piece to have in your Halloween arsenal. Want to wear something festive, but aren’t really up for a full costume? Hello, masquerade mask! Throw it on with a favorite dress and some lipstick, and you are ready to go!
Want to make your own lacy crochet mask? Let’s do it!

This pattern uses American crochet terms.
Special Stitches:
Picot (p): To form a picot, chain the number of chains indicated and then slip stitch to the front loop of the last stitch. This forms a little loop on the top of the stitch. A chain three picot will be abbreviated in this pattern as ch3 p.
Treble Crochet (tr): A treble crochet (abbreviated tr) is worked the same as a double crochet, except the yarn is wrapped around the hook twice before being inserted into the fabric. Work loops off of the hook two at a time.
Double Treble Crochet (dtr): A double treble crochet (abbreviated dtr) is worked the same as a double crochet and treble crochet, except the yarn is wrapped around the hook three times before being inserted into the fabric. Work loops off of the hook two at a time.
Start by making the two eye holes.

Start off by covering the plain mask with plastic wrap. Coat the crochet mask with fabric stiffener, and squeeze out the excess. You may want to add a bit of water to thin the stiffener out and get it worked through the mask.
Next, place the crocheted mask onto the plastic covered mask, and stretch it out to the desired shape. Leave your mask on the form until it is completely dry and then carefully peel off. Now it will hold the shape of the mask! Super cool, right?
All that’s left to do is make it so you can actually wear your pretty new mask. Cut two lengths of ribbon and loop an end through one of the spaces on each side of the mask. Secure the ribbon in place with a drop of hot glue.
Once the glue is dry, you are all done! Just tie on that mask and you are all ready for your masquerade ball (or any ol’ Halloween party.)

is there a way to make the mask without crocheting?
Alexis says
Hi Ingrid 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. There are probably other ways of making lacy masks without crochet, but not this particular one, no, you can’t make it without crocheting. Sorry!
