Monstrous Tissue Pom Poms

Tissue paper pom-poms are one of my go-tos for inexpensive, simple party decorations with big impact. I wanted a Halloween version of a tissue pom-pom, and I came up with these fun tissue monsters. Aren’t they cute? If you’d like to make some monsters for your Halloween bash, here’s how to do it:

Start off my making some tissue paper pom-poms. For each pom-pom you will need 10 sheets of tissue paper and a piece of floral wire.

  1. Fold your stack of tissue paper using an accordion fold about an inch (~3 cms). It does not have to be precise.
  2. Wrap your wire around the middle of the folded stack and twist to secure.
  3. Cut the ends of your stack off into points. I usually go with a rounded tip for flower pom-poms, but I think monsters have to be spiky. Right?
  4. Separate each sheet of tissue paper and fluff out into a nice round monster.
When your pom-pom is all formed and fluffed, it’s time to add your face. Use colored cardstock to create eyes and mouths. Circle hole punches are great for this.
To attach my features to the pom-pom, I kind of smashed the front of the pom-pom flat and simply attached them with hot glue. You can fancy up your monsters with some yarn pom-poms, feathers, and wire.
Ā
Your monsters can be made to match the colors for your party and can be sweet, silly, or even a little sassy.
What do you think? Could these guys hang at your next Halloween party?
