“Love Us” Gilded Canvas

Guys – I’m pretty excited about this project. I really, really like the way it turned out. I hope you do too!
It was inspired by different golden art pieces I have seen out there in blogland (like this one and this one). Most that I have liked use a word or phrase, but I decided I wanted to go with more of an image. I decided on a “i love us” kind of idea that would be represented by a heart and the word “us.”
I started out by printing off the outline of a heart so that half of the heart filled a page and the word “us.”
I cut them out to create a stencil.
I traced one half of the heart, and then flipped it over to finish the heart. Then, I added “us.”
I used a brush to paint on the gilding adhesive. Then, following the instructions, I let the adhesive dry for about twenty minutes. It gets nice and tacky.
Neatly placing the gold leaf onto the canvas was the trickiest part. A few spots are less than smooth, but I kind of like the look. I finished it up by using a clean, dry brush to remove the excess gold leaf. It easily brushed off any portions of the canvas that did not have adhesive applied.

Annnnnd… Voila! Love it.

My new canvas is living is currently hanging out in the entryway on my ikea shoe cabinet with my faux shell wall art and a little brass rhino from Target.

I’m digging it. This little corner is getting to be one of my favorite spots in the house. What do you all think?

Linking up at some of my favorite parties.

Love, love, love this! I've been awfully scared to work with gold leafing products. I've stuck with acrylic Gold paints, but you make it sounds really easy to use!

I think leafing something more three-dimensional would be trickier. I wasn't too concerned with perfection, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Thanks so much for stopping by!
