The past couple of days have definitely felt like summer here, and it’s making me want to get outside and and do a little refreshing of our outdoor space. I have started adding more plants to our decor (Guys. I have three plants in my home that I haven’t killed in the few months that I’ve had them, so I think I’m doing pretty good!), and I wanted to add a few more decorative planters to the backyard.
I found some awesome square and rectangular planters at Target that I really liked (you can see some similar ones here), and threw one in my cart when I was there the other day. Since our outdoor space has lots of bright pink accents, I thought it would be fun to add some pink to my new concrete planter.
This is a super simple project with really just one, maybe two steps, but I will walk you through it. 🙂
Stained Concrete Planter Supplies:
- Concrete Planter (similar one here or if you are feeling adventurous, DIY your own!)
- DecoArt Color Stain (I used Coral. Available on Amazon and in Select JoAnn stores.)
This Color Stain will stain pretty much any porous surface including your work surface and hands, so prepare accordingly! First wipe off your planter to remove any dust. If your planter is a bit rough, you may want to sand it down first. The one I picked up at Target was nice and smooth.
I really love this Color Stain because it is so, so easy to use. It is self-sealing, so you don’t have to worry about applying a separate sealer. Love that!
To apply the stain, just brush it on wherever you want color. You could tape off a section if you want a clean line, but I liked the brushed look. While the stain is still wet, wipe off any excess stain.
And that’s it! Let it dry, and then fill your planter with soil and plants – I used a little collection of succulents.
I’m really happy with how it turned out and I love how simple it was to make! It’s looking great in our outdoor space:
Yay for summer! Are you spending more time outdoors or making anything fun for your outdoor space? Tell me all about it. 🙂
