Make your own DIY pineapple box with just paper, scissors, and glue! Then fill with treats and they are the perfect party favor for any summery, tropical celebration. This post was originally shared at Consumer Crafts and includes affiliate links. See my full disclosure policy here.
I have a new pineapple craft for you all today! Pineapples are obviously super popular right now, but they also happen to be my very favorite fruit to eat. In my mind, nothing beats sweet, tart pineapple cold from the fridge. Yum! Plus, they are just super cute, so I can’t stop making pineapple crafts! I’ve done crochet pineapples (two versions, actually – here and here), t-shirt pineapples, piñata pineapples, but today is my first plain old paper pineapple, which is maybe the best kind, actually.
Not only are these paper pineapples adorable, but they are functional too. What! Bonus – just fill these cute little guys with some treats and – Viola! – perfect favors for a pineapple party (which are totally a thing!) or really any summery get together, pool party, or luau. All you need is paper, scissors, and glue. Markers are fun if you have ’em, and a Silhouette makes it extra easy if you have one of those (which I really recommend – guys, I use mine weekly if not daily).
Ready? Let’s make some!
DIY Pineapple Box Supplies
- Colored Cardstock
- Scissors or Silhouette
- Bone Folder (if cutting by hand)
- Craft Knife (if cutting by hand)
- Permanent Tape Runner or other adhesive
- Markers (optional)
- DIY Pineapple Box Template [light PDF (some readers had trouble printing the original PDF, so I have added a darker PDF) OR Silhouette Studio file]
Step One – Cut and Score Gift Box Template
You can cut out the pineapple box by hand or with a Silhouette. To cut by hand, print the PDF template out on cardstock, use scissors to cut around the outside edge, score along the fold lines with a bone folder, and finally, cut the slits in the top and front of the box with your craft knife. The template is not too complicated, so it is pretty easy to cut by hand.
If you are lucky enough to have a Silhouette, then the second option is even easier. The machine will cut out the gift box template and perforate along the fold lines at the same time, which means your boxes will go together in no time at all.
To give the boxes a little more interest, I added a crosshatch design to my yellow cardstock with markers before cutting the boxes. I really love the look that gave my boxes, but it’s totally optional, of course.
Step Two – Assemble Boxes
Whether you cut your boxes by hand or used a Silhouette, the next step is to fold up the box and glue it together. Just apply adhesive on the box tabs and press the box together.
Once the base of the box is formed, you can add the leaves to the top of the box. Fold the base of the leaves, slip through the slit in the top of the box, and secure in place with a bit of adhesive. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.
Finally, you can close up you DIY pineapple box with a little tap on the top that slips into a slit in the front. Nice, right?
Step Three – Fill and Enjoy!
All that’s left to do is fill up your boxes with treats and give them away to all your pineapple-loving friends. These boxes are the perfect size for holding small candies (like these lemonheads, which are just a really cute candy) or any other little treat.
That’s it for today, friends! If you make your own DIY pineapple box, I would love to see it! Share your photos to my facebook page or tag me on instagram or twitter (@persialou), and don’t forget to use the hashtag #persialou for a chance to be featured.
