I have had so much fun wrapping Christmas gifts this year. It’s always one of my favorite parts of the holiday season, but this year I decided to make it a bit more of a creative process.
I started by choosing a color scheme and creating a pinterest mood board. This may seem overkill for wrapping Christmas gifts, but I just really find that pin boards help me to focus my vision for any kind of creative project. I chose to go with pink, dark green, and red as my color scheme and to layer on different textures and finished with a kind of retro vibe.
I found some beautiful wrapping paper in the perfect shades of pink, green, and red in the etsy shop The Design Craft. Then I loaded up my cart with some drop dead gorgeous ribbons and trims from the Anastasia Marie Shop.
Give me all the velvet ribbons, pleaseandthankyou.
Once I had my paper and ribbons in hand, it was time to bust out my Silhouette Curio and make some custom gift tags/ornaments and other pretty gift wrap ephemera.
I love the idea of gift toppers that double as a gift, and so I thought acrylic ornaments would be perfect for that! I recently saw this amazing idea of using the Silhouette Curio and Foil Quill to add foiling to acrylic, and had to give it a try.
I have to say I was truly blown away by how well it worked and how beautifully the pieces turned out.
The foiling seems to be totally permanent, and just really beautiful! (You can see it in the silver foil design on the ornament above. The Merry Christmas design is by Tommy and Tilly Paper Design and is available in the Silhouette Design Store.)
I bought my acrylic blanks on Amazon, and then used my Silhouette Curio and Foil Quill to make the ornaments. I am working on putting together a more detailed post and video about how I made them that I hope to have up soon.
Besides the acrylic ornaments, I added layers of tags and cardstock decorations sticking to my color scheme and vaguely retro vibe.
Maybe my favorite element of all of that are the velvety details I added using pink StripFlock HTV. I just love flocked heat transfer vinyl for all kinds of projects, but I especially love using it on paper. I also used it last year on my 12 Days of Christmas gift boxes.
Isn’t that fuzzy Merry Christmas just so fun?? I love it paired with the velvet ribbon and plaid wrapping paper. (That Merry Christmas design is by Sophie Gallo and is available in the Silhouette Design Store. The Snowflake design is by Tanya Batrak and is also available in the Silhouette Design Store.)
I also added some glittery tags I made by cutting chipboard into tag shapes with my Silhouette Cameo 4 and then coating them with chunky leaf glitter.
And that’s it! I really love them even if they are all a little extra. What kind of Christmas wrapping are you doing this year?
Happy Making and Happy Wrapping!
