Hey there! Just wanted to pop in and let you all know that I have just published a new crochet pattern video. This time around it’s for my Black Cat Slouch Hat pattern, which seems to be a real favorite. You know, this guy:
So many of you have shared your cat hats, and I just love to see them! If you have made one of my patterns or projects and would like to share it with me, post it to my facebook page or tag me on instagram or twitter (@persialou) and don’t forget to tag it #persialou if you are okay with me sharing your work.
If you haven’t subscribed to my youtube channel yet, I would love to have you join me over there. I have lots of fun videos in the works.
I guess that’s it! Enjoy the video and don’t mind my goofy mugging. (If you don’t see the video below, it may be because of an ad blocker. You can also view it on my youtube channel HERE.)
Happy Weekend and Happy Making!

Hey there! Love this hat!!! I’ve just finished mine and it looks awesome but its very stiff and doesn’t ‘slouch’ at the back of my head, it either stands upright or makes weird chunky folds. Have I stitched it too tight or is it my yarn?…
Alexis says
Hi Hannah! Thanks so much for commenting. 🙂 Your yarn is probably thicker than the yarn I used. The white hat I made with the wool ease thick & quick was definitely stiffer than the black one. If you want to use the same yarn, I would try using a larger hook. That should give the hat a softer drape. You could also try using two pieces of worsted weight yarn held together instead of the bulky yarn. Good luck!

Sooooo stinkin cute!!! I just printed off your lego “Thanks for Coming” favor toppers. I couldn’t find a place to comment and thank you on that post for some reason. But I just wanted to say thank you, thank you for not making me figure out how to make those myself after you had already put time into making them! What a life-saver people like you are! Thanks for being willing to share.
As I was wondering around the site looking for a comment box on the lego party post, I noticed that you had “crochet” as one of your menus. I’m a somewhat intermediate on-and-off-again crocheter and I absolutely love that cat beanie! I don’t know why I’ve got a thing with hats and hoods with ears on them, but I just do! And you look adorable (or adorbs, as my tween daughter would say) in it. I just couldn’t help but think, “Man! She’s my kind of girl! If she lived close by, we’d probably be besties.” Anyway, blah, blah, blah, there I go blah blahing away. I just wanted to say you seem super cute and nice and I think you should know that. People don’t say nice things to others enough anymore.

You are so sweet! What a great comment – it absolutely made my day. 🙂 I’m glad the favor toppers were helpful for you and that the party went well! Thanks for taking the time to leave me that sweet little note. I really appreciate it!
Trish says
What hooks are you using? I’m finding I’d like the longer handle. Love this pattern.
Alexis says
Hi Trish! In this video I used Susan Bates hooks – some with the bamboo handle. Good luck!

I just wanted to say that I enjoy your videos and patterns because of the way explain everything more than once. I can tell you really enjoy what you do! I’m a visual learner and you make it easy for me. (I’m new to the crochet world) Thanks you for your blogs, patterns and everything you do! Great tutorial! Can’t wait to go buy some chunky yarn and make one to be twins with my black cats 😀 Still time to make some for gifts too. Thank you!
Alexis says
Ah! I love that! 🙂
Christine says
I made this today for a friend, and it turned out so cute, (after the obligatory mistakes lol) thanks so much!
Alexis says
YAY! So glad it worked out for you! 🙂
Sara says
Hello! Love this pattern!! Do you think the foundation should be 11″ for a toddler?
Alexis says
Hi! No, I would shorten it up a bit for a toddler hat. You basically want your rows to be as long as you want the finished hat to be minus an inch. Hope that helps!

I made a modified version of this into a Harley Quinn beanie! Check it out —> https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10100642284245206&set=a.782790370846.2134561.118504426&type=3&theater

Thank you so much for your crochet video for the cat hat!!! I am making pink pussy hats for all of my friends?
Alexis says
You are so welcome! Love that! 🙂
Kath says
Hello, when you say double up on the yarn if it is less then a 6 bulky what does that mean? I have a 4 I really want to use!
Alexis says
Hi Kath, I mean to hold together two pieces of yarn as if it was one piece of yarn. 🙂
Pauline says
