Hello there! I am very excited to share a brand new triangle scarf crochet pattern with you all today! I am participating in the Scarf of the Month Club hosted by Oombawka Design and The Stitchin Mommy. The idea is to share 24 free scarf patterns throughout the year so you can get a head start on making your holiday gifts.
I really love the idea of getting ahead on holiday gift making, but it is also July here in the desert and 110+ degrees, so I just couldn’t bring myself to make a cozy wooly winter scarf. Instead, I designed this triangle scarf crochet pattern made out of lightweight cotton yarn, which means it breathes wonderfully and adds just a light layer of warmth perfect for cool nights or just looking cool. Ha!
My sister helped me come up with the name Trillium inspired by its fun geometric pattern and the triangle-shaped diamonds and flowers of the same name.
Ready to make your own? Let’s do this!
Triangle Scarf Crochet Pattern Supplies
- Number 1 Weight Super Fine or Fingering Weight Yarn (I used Knit Picks’ Lindy Chain, which is a cotton and linen blend. I used about 240 yards of the white and 160 yards of the pink. If you use a thicker weight yarn, you will need to up the size of your hook and the overall size of the motifs and scarf will increase.)
- Size G (4.00 mm) Crochet Hook
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle

This pattern uses American crochet terms.
Special Stitches:
Double Crochet 2 Together (dc2tog): Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, draw up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and draw through first three loops (2 loops remaining). Yarn over and draw through last two loops. Dc2tog completed.
Double Crochet 3 Together Cluster (dc3tog cluster): Ch 3. Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch draw up loop (3 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, draw up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and draw through first three loops (2 loops remaining on hook). Yarn over and draw through first three loops (3 loops remaining on hook). Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops. Dc3tog cluster completed.
For this scarf you will need to crochet four different motifs, which will then be sewn together to form the scarf – the diamond, large triangle, small triangle, and half diamond.
My finished scarf is about 45″ long and 18″ wide (plus tassels). You will need the following number of motifs to complete the scarf.
Diamonds – 14 total (11 in Color A and 3 in Color B)
Large Triangle – 8 (Color B)
Small Triangle – 8 (Color A)
Half Diamond – 2 (Color A)
Diamond Pattern (Make 14 – 11 in Color A and 3 in Color B)

Triangle Scarf Crochet Pattern Assembly
Once you have all of your motifs crocheted, it’s time to sew them all together. Use the image below as a guide to help you place your motifs.
I joined my pieces using my yarn needle and a blind stitch (see image below). I recommend leaving a long tail when you finish off each motif and using that to join the pieces (this reduces the number of ends you have to weave in!)
Finally, when your scarf is all pieced together, you get to add tassels, which is maybe my favorite part. Start with five lengths of yarn more than double the desired length of the finished tassel. Fold in half and use your crochet hook to pull the center fold through the edge of your scarf. Pull the tails through the loop and tighten.
I added tassels about every 3/4″ up the pointed edge of the scarf.
And that’s it! Your new pretty scarf is all ready to wear!
I hope you like this little triangle scarf crochet pattern! If you make your own Trillium Scarf, I would love to see it! Share your photos to my facebook page or tag me on instagram or twitter (@persialou), and don’t forget to use the hashtag #persialou for a chance to be featured.
Happy Making!

i love this pattern!! can this also be made into a shawl? if so, how would i arrange the triangles?
Alexis says
Hi Monika! Yes! I would just kind of keep following the pattern to make it a bit longer, so add 2-4 more of the solid white diamonds along the edge to extend the length, and then fill in the remaining spaces following the pattern. You will probably need to add a few more of the half diamonds to get a perfect triangle shape too. I hope that is helpful!

thanks!

I LOVE this scarf! It is so lovely!
I believe in Row 3 of the diamond it should be: dc in next 3 sts – rather than the next 2 sts.
This is a great pattern, thanks so much!!
Alexis says
Thank you for catching that! I will change it now. 🙂

I just love your creativity. This scarf is just gorgeous!!! I did make your clutch using chain. My granddaughter loved it. I added a strap because, even though an adult, she loses everything LOL!!! I plan on making more clutches for others in my family. Thanks so much for sharing your art with us!!!

I love this pattern so much and signed up for newsletter! I am new to the crochet world, would you say the size of this piece would be ok for a child? My daughter is 7 and would LOVE this!! Not sure if I should make it as is and let her grow into it, or attempt to make it slightly smaller… Thoughts?
P.S. This might be our 1st mommy and me piece b/c I really love it too! lol
Alexis says
Hi Tiffany!
You can definitely adjust the size of the scarf by just changing up the number of the diamond motifs. So, I would recommend making a few of the diamonds, and laying them out to get an idea of the size. That said, it’s not a huge scarf, so I don’t think it would be too big for her as is, although I might remove one diamond from each end to shorten it up. (P.S. I have a seven year old daughter too!) Hope that helps! 🙂
Kriket says
Hello, This looks great 🙂 Can you give us the length & width of each of the different motifs please? Thank you.

Hi Alexis! I live in Texas so this scarf is perfect! I had to stop in and thank you for such a creative design and RAVE about your pattern writting skills! It is exciting to be able to recreate such lovely designs. I appreciate the time and energy that went into making, hooking, writing, and publishing The Trillium Shawl! Thank you! If I understood social media and all the, ‘tag me in ..’ and ‘hashtag” language I would send you a picture of mine made in plum and linen. Lol Bless You!

I’ve just started making this scarf and am enjoying it tremendously, it’s a great project for keeping my hands busy on hot summer days and evenings as it’s not hot to work with the cotton and the small motifs. I’m looking forward to the finished result. Thanks for sharing,
