So I had big plans for full family Halloween costumes this year, buuuuut I ran out of time. I know, boo.
The kids got their sweet costumes, but I decided to settle for Halloween-y t-shirts for the hubs and I. This cute “you’re freaking meow’t” tee is what I came up with for myself. I kind of love it, and I happen to think of it as an every day kind of shirt.
I wore it in the photos for my Black Cat Slouch Hat post from Monday, and lots of you expressed interest in getting your own shirt. So, just guess what I have for you lovelies today! That’s right! Ask and you shall receive, people. Ask and you shall receive.
Yep, that’s right. I’ve got everything you need to make your own freaking meow’t shirt right here.
Supplies (I have included affiliate links below. If you make a purchase, I may make a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for supporting Persia Lou!):
- T-shirt! Any plain one will do. Pick one that you love the fit of. I’m wearing a boyfriend tee from Old Navy.
- Heat Transfer Vinyl – I used Black for my daughter’s shirt and White Flocked for mine.
- Cutting Machine – I love my Silhouette Cameo!
- My Cut File – SVG or PDF
- Weeding Hook
- Iron or Heat Press
I don’t have step-by-step photos for this, but the process is really simple, and if you need more step-by-step help, you can check out some previous heat transfer projects and designs – forever ever heart, pineapple, and happy ice cream cone.
First open the file up in your software. In Silhouette Studio, you can use the image trace option to create the cut lines. Then make sure to mirror the image horizontally (This is important! You are cutting on the back side of the vinyl, so if you don’t mirror it your image will end up backwards on your shirt, and that’s no bueno.) Adjust your blade and cut setting according to the type of vinyl you are using AND cut! Use that weeding hook to pull off all the negative space, then place the design on your shirt. Iron according to the instructions for your vinyl, and TA-DA! Awesome new shirt.
I made one for my little girl too using black vinyl on a white tee. It turned out so cute!
It doesn’t hurt that she’s the cutest model ever. If you don’t want to do vinyl, you could also cut a stencil from freezer paper and use fabric paint or ink to create the design. And you could totally cut that out with a simple old craft knife too. It might be a little tedious, but totally doable. I’ve done it.
OR if you really aren’t feeling up to a DIY but still love the tee, you can just buy your own over at my Society6 shop. You can get the design printed in black or white. Yay!
Or you can even get it on a tote bag, clock, or mug! 🙂 The clock is pretty cute, I think.
If you make your own tee (or buy one!) I would love to see it. Share it to my facebook page or tag me on instagram. 🙂
Happy Making and Wearing!

Omg I just LOVE this!!!!!!! I have a very important question though… do you sell just the vinyl cut-out ready for ironing onto a shirt???
I’ve searched EVERYWHERE for almost 3 weeks now, attempting to get the materials needed for this project (I’m located in Australia). Sadly I can only get them at a ridiculously high cost. Purchasing a ready-made t-shirt is much cheaper option, however as I’m a plus sized person, the t-shirts in your online store are just too small for me 🙁 I have a shirt to put it on, so now I’m appealing to your kind nature and pleading that you sell the cut-outs ready to apply 😉
I look forward to your response, and thank you in advance! 🙂 Oh, and did I mention how much I LOVE this?!!?! 😛
Alexis says
Hi Carolyn! I don’t currently sell the vinyl, but maybe we could work something out. 🙂 Will you email me at persialou@gmail.com?
Carolyn Rabbitts says
Thanks Alexis, I’ve sent an email to you 🙂

I LOVE this shirt so much!! I would like to be able to purchase just the vinyl cutout, as well. I looked at the t-shirts for sale, and like another comment said, I just can’t “do” fitted t-shirts. Especially, if I can’t try it on first. PLEASE make the cutouts available!
By the way, I’ve just found your blog recently, and I’m enjoying it. I’ve just started making your simple slouch hat. Thank you for sharing your patterns!
