While I was working on my post for Oh My! Creative this month (it should be up in the next few days, so go check it out), I painted these two little fall-colored feathers, and thought maybe you guys could put them to use too! The feathers are PNG files with transparent backgrounds, and they are free for personal use. If you use them on your web site, I would love it if you link back to me. A Gentleman’s Bow Tie – A Freshly Completed Pattern
Well, hello there, handsome! A couple weeks ago I volunteered to test the Gentleman's Bow Tie pattern from Freshly Completed. I jumped at the chance because I had bought this pink shirt for my little guy, and I kept thinking it was just crying for a bow tie. Right? The pattern was easy to follow with lots of pictures, and I'm really happy with how it came out. Apparently, Mr. Chubs over here is happy with it too. And--bonus!--he didn't even drool on it too much. I need to whip out a few more to add to my new bow tie fox that is hanging out in the nursery these days. I picked him up on clearance at Target. Just couldn't pass it up. And I'm so glad I did. I've added a few natural wood touches to the room and really liking it. Maybe we will get a Nursery tour Continue Reading
Painted Onesies for A Baby Boy
A few weeks ago I saw this amazing little "man cub" tee at Everything Emily. I needed it for my little guy right away. The tee was from Loved by Hannah and Eli, but--sad day--it was sold out. I couldn't get the idea out of my head, so I had to make my own for my little guy right away. The original was cuter, but I love my version too. I'm kind of obsessed with it. Annnnd - I may or may not sing the song from The Jungle Book pretty much every time I pick him up now. I wanna be a man, man cub, and stroll right into town. Ooh ee ooh I wanna be like you-oo-oo. Are you singing it too now? You're welcome. To make it, I printed out the word and cut the letters out of freezer paper. I decided to leave the middle of the letters out. Maybe because I was feeling a little lazy but also Continue Reading
Multi-Strand Big Bow Hat: Crochet Pattern
I don't seem to crochet as much during the hot summer months, but it is finally starting to cool down here, and my yarn is coming out again. So here's a little hat for you to work up if your yarn is coming out again too. Fresh off my hooks, the Multi-Strand Big Bow Hat. I got my inspiration for this hat the other day when my little sweetheart and I were using yarn to outline shapes as part of our preschool activities. After we were done doing our shapes, I took a few of the yarn scraps and braided them into a bracelet for my little girl. The different colors and yarn weights looked so cool braided together, I decided I needed to make a hat using the same yarns. I worked up a simple hat with the three yarns and a large hook, and then added a fun bow made out of the lightest weight Continue Reading
Small Shared Boy and Girl’s Bedroom: Vintage Disneyland Room Reveal
The day has finally come! After a over a year of planning, pinning, dreaming, painting, quilting, and shopping, I am ready to call my kids' vintage Disneyland room reveal ready. When I started planning this room, I was facing a few challenges. First of all, I really wanted the room to be something that both my all-boy son and girly-girl daughter would love. Coming up with a fun theme for a shared boy and girl's room can be a bit of a challenge. Secondly, I needed to fit two beds, two kids' worth of stuff, and some play space in a small (about 11'x11') room. Finally, the walls were already navy with white beadboard on the bottom, and I wanted to incorporate that into the room. I am a big Disneyland fan, and I have always been particularly fond of the vintage attraction posters, so I Continue Reading
Candy Corn Colored French Macarons
I'm back on the french macaron train, friends, and this time we are going cute with a Candy Corn Colored French Macaron! Yay! For this macaron experiment, I focused on the color and look more than trying out new flavors. (Although, they do taste pretty great!) To make these Halloween goodies, I started by making two batches of Beth's Foolproof French Macarons, one at a time. (See my tips for making French macarons here). For the first batch, I did not add any food coloring and topped with white non-pareils. I tinted the second batch yellow. I chose to make two separate batches rather than adding food color to only half of the batch because french macarons can be finicky and I was afraid I would end up overbeating half of the batter. So, if you decide to make these, be warned you Continue Reading
Monstrous Tissue Pom Poms
Tissue paper pom-poms are one of my go-tos for inexpensive, simple party decorations with big impact. I wanted a Halloween version of a tissue pom-pom, and I came up with these fun tissue monsters. Aren't they cute? If you'd like to make some monsters for your Halloween bash, here's how to do it: Start off my making some tissue paper pom-poms. For each pom-pom you will need 10 sheets of tissue paper and a piece of floral wire. Fold your stack of tissue paper using an accordion fold about an inch (~3 cms). It does not have to be precise. Wrap your wire around the middle of the folded stack and twist to secure. Cut the ends of your stack off into points. I usually go with a rounded tip for flower pom-poms, but I think monsters have to be spiky. Right? Separate each sheet Continue Reading
A Black and White Halloween “Mantel”
Our house doesn't have a fireplace. Which means, as you may have figured out, there's no mantel. So where's a blogger to put her holiday decor? I've decided to adopt a little console table/shoe cabinet in our entryway as my new "mantel" for holiday decor purposes. I could have gone another direction. The area of my house that is most mantel-like is a weird built in arch thing that looks like it should have a fireplace but doesn't. But this mantel-ish thing needs a little love (or dusting in the least). See? That's a real life photo for you, folks. I didn't even hide the toys or anything. I must really like you guys. Anyway. Here is my official, finished black and white Halloween "mantel" full of DIY projects and dollar store finds. I think the skull cameos are probably my Continue Reading
